Investment: 1996 Ford Escort RS Cosworth
Update 26/8: This car has been re-listed on ebay UK here.
A nice example of a roadgoing rally car has come up for sale in this 1996 “Cossie”. These cars were produced from 1992 to 1996, so it makes this particular car one of the last ones. Just over 7000 of them were made: 2500 more rudimentary rally homologation vehicles and the rest a bit more luxuriously equipped.
The body was developed by Ghia to accomodate the mechanicals and bigger engine from the Sierra Cosworth. Although later cars had the option to remove the whale tail spoiler, most people still kept the spoiler which has become a feature characteristic of these cars. This car is on 18″ OZ wheels that don’t look too bad but we prefer the original five-spoke wheels.
The engine is a Turbocharged 2-litre lump that provides about 227bhp in standard form to keep the permanent 4WD going. This engine is highly tuneable and is amazingly capable of over 1000bhp. The works version was a very successful rally car until replaced in 1999 by the Focus WRC.
The car is for sale here on ebay out of Exeter, UK. The mileage is 67500 miles. It is on £8000 with 5 days to go and is likely to go quite a bit higher.
