US-import: 1972 Fiat 124 Spider
Last week the head of the Pininfarina design studios tragically died in a motorbike accident. One of the studio’s most successful designs was the Fiat 124 Spider by Tom Tjaarda in 1968. For sale here we have found a pretty clean early example with the desirable chrome bumpers and flat bonnet.
The flat bonnet was later replaced with a bumped one to accomodate a bigger engine and especially twin carburettors. This example is clearly a US-import as it has the bumper overriders, the side repeaters front and back and the red indicator lights on the rear light cluster. Since it is a US-car, it could well be completely rust-free.
The interior looks pretty stock although we’re not sure about the seats. They are covered in half leather half cloth and we’re not sure if that was only a later car feature or not. We would probably change the wheels to something a bit more sporty like the Abarth 4-spoke Cromodoras and we would change the steering wheel as well. We’re not big fans of the bumper overriders either, I’m afraid.
The car is for sale here in Limburg, Belgium and the seller wants €7500 for it, which in our eyes, taken the decent condition of the car is not too bad.

Nice car, nice color.
like matt black front and rear lids.
I’ve got a 1971 BS1 Sport Spider thats up for sale.
It’s a nice red one with some Abarth pretentions
It’s used occasionally on sunny days and more frequently for historic rally events.
It’s engine (originally a 1600) has been changed for a very good and slightly tuned 2L.
This engine is running on petrol and on LPG!!!
It has a towbar as curious option too.
I use this feature for towing my Ducati 996 on its little trailer.
I’ve got several nice pictures of this truly fine car.
