Racer: 1959 Austin Healey “Frogeye” Sprite
Update 16/9: The Frogeye sold for £4113.
This Sprite comes with a bit of racing history. It won the 1968 4hr Croft rally and participated in the 1969 Targa Florio but retired in the race because of an accident. The car has been a regular customer on tracks around Europe and is up for sale on ebay UK out of Buckinghamshire with 1 day to go.
The car has definitely seen better days but it undoubtedly adds to the patina this car has. As can be seen it comes with widely flared arches, a glassfibre bonnet with en extra set of foglights and even has a boot cut out of the rear pannel.
The knock-off wheels are pretty unique and match the car nicely. The interior is a bit mix ‘n match, we would prefer two matching seats to be honest. This can be sorted later.
The engine is a bored out 1275cc and comes with an oil cooler, auxiliary fan, and an electric fuel pump. The engine is running a bit hot at the moment but this might just be a faulty sensor playing up. The car needs a bit of sorting esthetically and maybe mechanically but with its history and battlescars to prove, it would be a great addition to any enthousiast’ garage.
