Red Devil: 1958 Austin Healey 100/6
This Healey is an ex-California car, purchased by a Cambridge professor and shipped to England. It was restored 12 years ago at serious expense. It has always been kept in a heated garage. The car has made it to Belgium over the last couple of years and is now for sale out of Limburg.
We like it because it doesn’t have wire wheels for a change and because of the sporty-looking combination of the red body with the black hardtop and the silver Wolfrace wheels. If you’re not that much into sport, don’t worry, the original wheels come included. Also included are a brand new softtop and a tonneau cover.
The engine is a 6-cylinder Longbridge model. The “100″ in the type description comes from the ability (as one of the first cars at the time) to do 100mph. This later BN6 car should be able to go faster than 100mph though. The gearbox is fitted with an overdrive.
The interior looks neat and tidy, the steering wheel is just right, we like it. The seller is selling it reluctantly for €27000. The 100/6 was considered an interim car before the 3000. Performance is right up there with the 3000 though (up to about 100mph), so if you want decent performance at a lower cost, this Healey is the one to go for. If the car comes back to the UK, the license plate could be worth a few bob too. If it hasn’t been scrapped/sold already of course …
