Unique: 1967 VW Beetle Van conversion
Sometimes, you see a car and think if someone hadn’t already done it, then someone should. That’s exactly what we though when we first laid our eyes on this Beetle Van. It looks right, and particularly on the picture beneath.
It has a fibreglass and steel body and was according to the seller, done not too long ago. The car is in decent condition with the current owner fixing or replacing quite a few parts over the last couple of years. A new interior was fitted only a couple of weeks ago. The engine is a 1600cc with twin carbs and has only recently been rebuilt.
The exhaust pipes look a bit messy at the moment. We’re also not convinced about the tailgate. We would be tempted to cut out a square window, it looks a bit too awkward. And fix the black rubber lining on the top. And maybe replace the rear light cluster with a more period one. And why not change the rear view mirrors with something chrome too. And dare I say maybe replace the red leather for black?
The widened steel wheels are a definite stay. All in all, a head-turning conversion for sure, with heaps of potential. It is for sale here on ebay UK out of Portsmouth on the South Coast.

I bought this car from Jersey and sold it on a fair few years ago, loved this project, not too sure about the red, i have some photos of the black and yellow flame interior i made for it, should never have let this car go, time to build another one
So Sam, you’re the one that built the fiberglass back onto this car?
If yes, can you tell me what you did about the engine being inside the car? My dad did this too, but ours doesn’t have A/C and the engine is inside the car still so it gets hot very quickly.
