Elegant: 1967 Rolls-Royce Mulliner Park Ward
Mulliner and Park Ward were two coachbuilders who had done some work for Rolls-Royce and finally got taken over by the motoring company from Crewe when they had hit financial troubles. The first car that came out under Rolls-Royce ownership was this Silver Shadow-based coupé, or better even: “two door saloon”. It was named after Mulliner Park Ward but was changed from 1971 onwards into Corniche.
It was the most expensive car in the world at the time. It was twice the price of a Ferrari Dino or even an “ordinary” Rolls-Royce. About 600 Coupés and 500 Convertibles were made.
We like this one. There is something about the colour combination, with the white-walled tyres and the webasto sunroof that is quite appealing. The Caribbean Blue bodywork with the Oatmeal leather and the wooden interior finishes create a very South of France Saint-Tropez kind of atmosphere. The steering wheel is very simple in its design and also features the automatic gearbox’ gear display and column gear shifter.
The engine is a V8, with twin SU carburettors and has 87500 miles on the clock. It has just been serviced and had a complete brake overhaul in the process. The car sits an inch lower than its four door saloon version. The car is for sale on ebay UK for GBP15000 or best offer.
