welcome !

Classic cars are our passion. Driving our classic cars is an even bigger passion. But the internet is our addiction ... Just as we can drive for hours, we can surf the internet for hours on end. Always trying to find that special car for sale in some obscure little corner.

Get in now!: 1982 Golf GTI (x2)

If you hadn’t noticed already, the all original Golf GTI is a classic. And quickly appreciating in price. You’ll be hard pressed though to find a mint pre-1980s 1.6-litre example with small rear lights. Chances are you will have to settle for the later 1.8-litre, fuel-injected Mark I version with the bigger rear lights, but not to worry … ClassicCarHunter has found two pretty good examples, both originally uncovered in the South of France.

1982 Golf GTI Mk I

First up is this red one, originally bought by an elder lady and then passed onto her son. They weren’t very musical, or should we say: they really REALLY liked the sound coming out of the engine bay as neither of them really bothered to have a radio fitted.

The car is in very near perfect condition except for a little rust spot near where the antenna sits and a little bump on the roof. The downside with red cars though is that the pigment fades in the sunlight and so probably this car could benefit from a respray to turn it into a mint example.

They say with these cars, that if you can find one with a mint interior, you have a good one, and the red Golf seems to have one of the best interiors, if not the best we have seen. The seller points out that the side of the driver’s side shows a little wear and tear although we can’t really make it out from the pictures.

The car has covered around 162k kilometres in all those years and is for sale on ebay out of Germany. It does seem a bit funny that the seller has searched for years for a pristine example and then sells it on. Nevermind …

On the Belgian ebay we discovered this golden example. This one hasn’t got the foglight option, and after seeing the two next to one another we can’t really make up our minds which version we prefer more. On the golden one, the front left wing has been replaced at some stage and the car has received a respray in 1992. It’s done nearly 180k kilometres.

Both cars have already reached the EUR5000 mark. With the devaluation of the Sterling, it does scare us a bit to see how much money these cars are fetching these days. We’re anxious to see how much they will eventually reach.
