Update 19/2: The auction was ended early with a Buy-It-Now of EUR39800. No surprise there really …

From 17/2:

Older sports tourers are seriously cool in our opinion, and especially these older Maserati GTs. This particular one for sale on ebay Germany needs completion and is unfortunately missing a few bits and pieces. It is a Maserati 3500 GTi (2a serie), an aluminium-bodied, fuel-injected 2+2 coupe designed by Carrozzeria Touring. About 500 were made.

The 3500 was the first mass-produced car for Maserati, just over 2200 cars were produced, and some of Italy’s top coachbuilders like Vignale, Allemano, Frua, Bertone, Boneschi and Moretti designed bodies on the 3500′s chassis but none achieved the classic lines of the Touring design. Compared to the GT version, the GTi had a lower roofline, longer nose, shallower front grille, revised front indicators, the front foglights were removed, redesigned rear light clusters. The letter ‘I’ was added to the ‘Maserati 3500 GT’ chrome script above the rear number plate and a Trident badge was added with the word ‘Iniezione’ written on it.

When we first saw a picture of this car we thought this was a body off restoration, but when you look at the B-pillar below, it becomes a bit doubtful. Nice leather interior though. The car has had one owner, and was first registered in Switzerland. Unfortunaltey there are no pics available of the dashboard.

The engine in these cars is a competition six cylinder engine from the Tipo 350S sports racer modified for road use. The seller says the engine runs good. The engine would only have just over 10k km on the clock. The gearbox is a ZF 5-speed box compared to a 4-speed in the earlier cars. Borrani knock-offs were an option on these cars and they look really good with them. We would try and source some.

As we said, a few bits are missing and the seller claims they have been stolen. Basically, what you can’t see has been nicked: front and rear windscreen and rubbers, bumpers, rear light, door handles, side ventilation grills, front grill with Trident symbol. As we said, the car is available from ebay in Germany out of Bensheim between Frankfurt and Heidelberg, and the seller wants cash on collection. Click on the pics to go through to the ebay auction page. Nice project for someone who can source the missing pieces. Similar cars are for sale on anamera.com for between 60k and 80k euros.

We featured one of these cars back in September 2008. Another one has come up for sale, again in Italy. Rome to be more precise. It seems like someone started the restoration but has decided to pass on the opportunity. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to mention a price.

The car was at some stage shipped from Argentina to Italy. The original founder of Cisitalia, Piero Dusio decided to set up shop in Argentina in 1951 and built a few thousand Cisitalia Coupé and Spider versions. The Cisitalia Abarth was a souped up version and is quite rare. Carlo Abarth used to run the Cisitalia racing team back when Dusio was still running his factory in Italy. The body was designed by Allemano.

This originally red car needs a bit of work for sure but does seem to be complete. Most parts seem to be original. We like the big dials on the original dashboard. The louvered bootlid covers the 850cc engine of the Fiat 600 it is based on. It is being rebuilt at the moment. The car is for sale here on Subito. A couple of nice racers in the garage. Oh … and the steering wheel needs to go of course! We would source a nice Nardi one.

15/1: We have been informed the car has been sold.

From 12/1:

For sale in the area around Calais in the north of France is this 1973 Fiat 124 Abarth that needs completing. This is an extraordinary opportunity for someone to acquire one of the homologation versions of these rally icons of the 1970s. We are very tempted ourselves to buy the car and we can see this car gone in no time.

The car has been primed and can be painted in the new owner’s favourite Stradale colour. We think the red suits the car best. Other options would be white or azure blue. Most Stradale cars were delivered to customers in white, followed by red. We’d like to know more about the engine. Standard these cars came with a 1800cc Lampredi twincam. If there aren’t already twin carburettors fitted, we would immediately source some and get a custom exhaust made to get the most out of the engine, and we don’t mean just performance-wise. The burble coming out of these engines is pretty amazing. Don’t forget to take out the middle box of course …

Above and below pictures of the red Stradale owned by our friend Ross Alkureishi of Classic Cars magazine are used as example illustrations only.

We’ve covered a few Morettis before, and we must admit that we quite like his cars. He was quite an enterprising character really, he set up his own company at 21 years of age. He built cars based on Fiats and you’ll be hard pushed these days to find two identical cars as lots of them had little differences. And you’ll be VERY lucky to see another one of these come up for sale. It’s a Moretti 2500SS Coupé based on the Fiat 2300. We’ve only known a 2500SS Spider come up for sale on ebay UK a couple of years ago.

The French owner has had this coupé for sale for quite a while now actually. He hasn’t got the time nor funds anymore to restore the car to its former glory. We must admit that the interior picture looks pretty scary at first sight and would make us think twice about taking on this car. The car does seem to be complete though apart from the right front side ventilation grille. To have the front bumper to fit the distinct shark nose is definitely a bit of a bonus.

The mechanics are based on the Fiat 2300, the 6-cylinder engine is a tuned version capable of over 200km/h and has a twin carburettor setup. The car comes with Borrani wire wheels and a nice Nardi wooden steering wheel. It also has a leather interior and was fitted with electric windows. A picture of what the car should look like is shown below.

The car is for sale here out of France and the seller wants EUR30000 which seems quite a lot. The Spider we talked about above sold for less than GBP15000 a couple of years ago and was in MUCH better condition. It would be very nice to see the Coupe on the road again though.

Update 16/1: The car didn’t meet reserve with 27 bids and EUR9062

From 3/1:

This is an unfinished project. The seller, who has 20 years experience as a car painter, has to let go because of health problems. He also has more than 11 years of experience with extreme tuning projects, and by God … it shows. What a monster Group 5 Ford racer he’s created! Fantastic!

He took a 1974 Mk I Escort shell and pretty much changed every part that could be changed: wings, doors, scuttle panels, … All chrome parts and emblems were stripped off. Then the car was widened by about 5 centimeters. But the most impressive has to be the paint job. It is based on the Ford Capri 3100 driven by Jochen Maas. It is a Glasurit 2K-HS paint that’s been used: the blue is RAL 5005 signal blue and the white is the whitest white available. Whiter than white! And it shows, it’s really bright. But that’s not all, the car has been rust proofed. Every piece of steel’s edge has been treated with some stuff to stop it from rusting.

Every mechanical part has been changed with Motorsport-Technik parts. The screenwipers have been replaced by a one-arm system. The rear axle has been replaced with a Mk I Capri V6 unit, which is about 4.5cm wider. The rear diff has its own oil cooler. The tunnel has been widened for a 5-gear T9 gearbox. The wheels are 13″ BBS E30 Magnesium wheels, at the front 6.5″ deep and 8″ at the back.

Now you might have started wondering where the engine shots are. Well, the engine is the biggest part that still needs completion. The 2-litre OHC unit has been taken apart for coating and reassembly with all aluminium RS parts. It is fed by a four branch intake manifold with twin 40 Dellortos. Samco hoses have been provided as well. But as mentioned it still needs putting together and fitting into the car. A custom made Powersprint exhaust system also needs fitting. There is some small bits like an analogue clock and a display for the diff oil temperature that need fitting into the dash. But it’s pretty much there otherwise.

The car is for sale here on German Ebay out of Dülmen, which is above Dortmund in the west of Germany. This is the nicest Escort we’ve seen. We are pretty sure it will draw a lot of attention, and not only on the internet …

For sale in the south of Holland is this nice little project. This fixed head coupé has been partly restored. All welding is done, including a new rear end and sills. It has been put in a primer and needs painting. The car comes with a Production Record Trace Certificate and chassis, body, engine, gearbox are all matching numbers.

The Jaguar XK150 was the successor of the XK140 and although there were quite a few visual differences between the cars, it still featured the straight six engine from the XK140. The standard engine delivered a “meagre” 180bhp and the car proved a bit slow (for some). This one has the SE engine which had a modified head with larger valves and delivered 210bhp.

If you’re not into matching numbers cars, you could get a bored out 3.8-litre engine that delivers 265bhp and fit that instead. It’s all about having some fun in life!

These cars are for sale on various European websites for around GBP35000. This one is for sale for EUR13500, which is roughly GBP10k. The great thing is that you can restore this car to whatever spec you fancy. Keep us posted on the progress please.

For sale in the North of France, close to Calais, is this stylish Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider by Touring. It’s a Series 102 and seems to have been laid up in a barn for quite a few years. It is in need of a full restoration. It will also need a bonnet and an engine. We have no idea what other parts could be missing.

We can already see this car on a nice set of wire wheels cruising in the South of France. Or anywhere else for that matter. Only about 3400 were made. The engine should be a 2-liter 4-cylinder but why not fit it with something bigger like a 6-cylinder as in the later 2600 Spider. Or why not something a bit more radical like a V6 conversion maybe?

We have seen these Spiders for sale for amounts around the €40k mark. It will come down to your negotiation skills to secure the car for a fair price. We hope the seller is a bit realistic, but seeing that the car is on a trailer might already mean there is a third party selling the car. The ad can be found here on anciennes.net.

Francis Lombardi was an Italian WWI hero who started an aircraft factory in 1938. After WWII he went into carrozzeria and started developing body styles based on the Fiat 1100. He also did some design work with the Fiat 600 and developed the Lucciola or “firefly”. It was quite a successful style that he carried through to a couple of other models. A 600 Lucciola has popped up for sale on passioneauto.it in Italy.

What will draw your attention straight away is the doors. First of all Lombardi managed to put four doors on a Fiat 600 but he also put the hinges on the back of the rear door to maximise accessibility. Pretty funky! And just as funky is the roof rack which we have never seen before on these small Fiats.

The car is in obvious need of a bit of restoration. From the photos it seems to be only surface rust. The seller states the car is complete but does come with a few new bits and pieces. It is offered for €3000. This will make a great project for someone.

Innocenti is an Italian company that used to make the famous Lambretta scooters after the war. We bet that’s something not a lot of people know. The next little-known fact is probably that Innocenti had a licensing agreement with BMC, the British Leyland Motor Company to produce the Mini and the Austin-Healey Sprite Mark II. Ghia redesigned the Sprite body to match the floorplan. They later even added a roof to it!

The intention was to go upmarket with the Sprite. The Spider version looks very nice indeed. But we must admit we like the little Coupe a bit more. They rarely come up for sale. This one has been around a bit longer as it needs a bit of work done.

It will need a respray, and a couple of bits of trim by the looks of it. The engine is possibly going to need a rebuild too but can for now just be swapped for an Austin-Healey Sprite one. The seller just says it it not seized up.

The interior doesn’t look too bad at first sight. The seats look in pretty good nick. This could be a pretty straightforward job for someone. It is for sale out of Ancona in Italy and was advertised here. It doesn’t mention a price unfortunately.

Update 23/9: The car is a unique body made on a Fiat 508c Balilla basis. It was made in 1953. Thank you to Nik on alfabb.com.

Here at Classic Car Hunter, we are astonished sometimes with the amount of cars that Fiat used to produce. Or the amount of Fiat derivatives or etceterinis as they are called. Here is yet another different body based on the Fiat 508c or 1100.

This one has us a bit baffled though. It seems to be some kind of sports tourer because of the third headlight. It is right hand drive. There is a “Z” shape on the side of the front wings. Is this a giveaway that it is some Zagato design? We’re not professional car experts but that Fiat badge on the front grille seems the wrong period.

It is for sale here out of Italy for €7000. It will need a bit of work. We would be very interested to find out more about this car. If you have more info, send it to submit@classiccarhunter.com.
